About fifty talmidim from Machon Lemaan Yilmedu were tested this week by the posek, Rabbi Gavriel Zinner, author of Nitei Gavriel, in his beis medrash in Boro Park.
This test was for talmidim who live in Crown Heights and the area, who are in the Semicha program - issur v'heter; Hilchos Shabbos - halacha l'maaseh, Shechita and Safrus. At the same time, a series of tests was held for about 200 talmidim who participate in the Zoom shiurim given by Rabbi Dovid Banon, rav and dayan in the Chabad community of Montreal.
The test began with the menahel, Rabbi Chaim Yisroel Wilhelm thanking Rabbi Zinner for the time he has devloted to the talmidim of the machon since the opening of the mosad in the United States four years ago.
Rabbi Zinner spoke highly of the director of the machon, Rabbi Zushe Wilhelm a'h, and connected this with the previous parsha. Although Moshe Rabeinu's name is not mentioned in it, he is present. So too, although Rabbi Wilhelm is not with us, certainly the ongoing learning and expansion of the mosad give nachas ruach to his neshama.
Rabbi Zinner tested the talmidim for an hour and a half. Along with him were the maggidei shiur, Rabbi Yossi Barber, Rabbi Sholom Zirkind, and Rabbi Chaim Pape. At the test's conclusion, he urged the talmidim to continue investing in limud ha'Torah in general, and particularly the study of halacha, and reminded them of the obligation, according to Torah, to learn Torah every day.
This week, all programs began, with many new participants alongside veteran students who after learning for one year and seeing how good it was, decided to continue learning for another year. Most of the talmidim participate in the programs via Zoom shiurim. There are also live shiurim given in Lemaan Yilmedu's beis medrash in Crown Heights for local residents.
After a year of intensive learning, a final was given to the talmidim of Machon Lemaan Yilmedu on Shechita and Sofer STa'M with Rabbi Dovid Refoel Banon, Rav and Dayan in the Chabad community in Montreal.
For a year and a half, about thirty shluchim have participated in a thorough and comprehensive course learning Hilchos Nidda. This week, they reached the siyum in a test given by the posek, the Debrecener Dayan, Rabbi Yechezkel Schwartz of Boro Park.
